The New Patient Experience

Your first visit to our practice

At your introductory appointment, after meeting our front office co-ordinators and completing your pre-treatment details, your dentist will complete an initial examination and collect any necessary records such as dental films or perhaps impressions of your teeth. Your comprehensive exam thoroughly looks at your whole mouth and surrounding structures, as well as taking note of your previous dental work.

A careful history of your medical and dental status is taken and general and specific concerns are discussed.

Emergencies

If you have presented with minor discomfort, a dental injury or a major concern, this will be our first priority.

Diagnostic Aids

In formulating our diagnosis of your dental condition we may require

  • Dental Films
  • Photographic records
  • Moulds for dental study casts
  • Various tests

Complete Treatment Planning

For any necessary complex treatment, after careful analysis and planning, your dentist will sit down with you at a separate extended consultation visit to present and discuss your individualized written report and treatment plan. At this visit you will have the opportunity to discuss matters in detail and discuss the merits of treatment and possible alternatives.

For routine situations, a simplified treatment plan with costings and item numbers will be issued at the completion of your appointment, so that you may plan your future appointments. A lot of our patients like to check with their health insurance providers at this stage in order to plan their budget accordingly.

Personal Patient Care

We appreciate that your time is valuable and we will always endeavour to run according to schedule. Unfortunately when dealing with a biologic system this is not always possible. Nor is it possible to stay on time if previous patients have been late for their appointment. However should this occur our front office co-ordinators will advise you of the length of the delay, offer you a refreshment and if necessary make your delay known to whomever you wish.

Our reception area offers filtered water on tap and a variety of magazines for your perusal. Dental education material on a range of topics is also available for your information. We offer a range of oral hygiene products at cost and are happy to advise you on your purchase.

During your appointment you are welcome to listen to a music CD of your own or our background music.

Should you have particular dental anxiety issues as a result of previous experiences we are able to arrange for anti-anxiety medication or nitrous oxide sedation (“happy gas”) which provide you with significant benefits while still allowing you to drive home.

For our regular patients we provide after hours personalized emergency care.

Financial Value

Very often patients feel that their dentists are reluctant to discuss costs prior to treatment. Please be aware that at your treatment plan consultation we shall bring to your attention all known costs associated with your financial commitment.

We consider our care to be of the highest quality and our fees truly reflect the personal clinical time spent, the quality of materials used and the ongoing investment in modern equipment, infection control and technology.

The restrictive rules of health funds often preclude payment for needed treatment and only offset some of the costs you incur. We will endeavour to assist you in any way we can, but please understand the financial obligation for dental treatment is primarily yours; as is the relationship with whichever insurance fund you choose.

Payment

Payment is normally due at the end of each appointment. For your convenience we accept cash, cheques, Eftpos and most credit cards.

We recommend patient payment plans as a source of easy finance for your more extensive dental needs. The benefit of using these plans is that necessary dental work can be done to prevent further complications while you are able to pay over time with flexible monthly payment plans direct to the financing company.

We have also introduced HICAPS for your convenience.
